President

Dr. Jean Michel Karam is an entrepreneur in microelectronics and beauty. He arrived in France in 1990 and obtained his engineering degree from ESIEE-Paris and his DEA from the University of Paris VII in 1993. In 1996, he followed up with a doctorate in microelectronics from the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble. In 1994, he joined the TIMA-CMP laboratory, a CNRS research unit associated with the INPG and the UJF, as a research engineer. Very quickly, he created and directed a research group, made up of more than 35 researchers, in the field of MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems). This research group quickly became a world reference in its field, allowing it to launch into entrepreneurship by creating its first MEMSCAP company in November 1997. Less than 3 years later (March 2, 2001), he listed MEMSCAP on the NYSE Euronext, raising 101 million euros ($140 million) based on a MEMSCAP market capitalization of 430 million euros, enabling him to establish his company as a leading player in the MEMS market. Today, MEMSCAP provides innovative solutions based on MEMS technology for avionics, medical and optical communications. Today, in addition to his mandate as Founding President of IEVA, Jean directs MEMSCAP, as well as IOMA, a company he created in June 2010 and sold it to Unilever in June 2012. In less than 9 years, IOMA has become the number one brand in personalized cosmetics. He is also President of the LEYLA association, which funds research into orphan and rare diseases and other charities. Jean has more than 250 scientific and economic publications and is the inventor or co-inventor of more than 80 patents.

Chief executive

David Moulinier received his Engineering Degree in Applied Sciences and Microelectronics from the High School ICPI in Lyon, France. In 1999, he joined the MEMSCAP Group where he held multiple development and technical management positions in research areas covering computer science, microelectronics and MEMS technologies. In 2004, David joined MEMSCAP Skin Initiative, where he led the research & development activities within the Methods & Devices Business unit. In 2010, David co-founded IOMA where he acted as Director of Enabling Technology division heading all technological developments. He is a co-founder and Managing Director of IEVA.

Swiss native, Vera Strübi was the former President of Thierry Mugler Parfum for 17 years and member of the board of Directors at Clarins. Vera had a major impact on the Cosmetic and Perfume industries and held key positions in international companies. Famous within the prestige perfume world, she originated the creation of the now mythical ‘Angel’, that has become an international reference. Vera has over 35 years of experience with international companies in luxury branding (cosmetic and Perfume) and worldwide knowledge of the selective distribution. Vera is known to be an innovative thinker with firm and fair business behavior.

Prior to joining MEMSCAP in 2005, Yann Cousinet dedicated 9 years to audit and financial consulting, where he specialized in semi-conductor and high-technologies. Former Senior Manager with Ernst & Young, where he also was in charge of recruiting and management for Ernst & Young in the Rhônes-Alpes region, Yann’ primary field of competence is listed multinational companies. Mastering both Anglo-Saxon and IAS/IFRS reporting standards, Yann has a diploma from Grenoble business school where he now teaches. Yann is also a cofounder and CFO of IOMA.

Margarita is an experienced retail and branding specialist. In the beauty industry, she stands out as a visionary, strategic and inspiring leader. Margarita is reputed for her entrepreneurial spirit and her passion for people and brands she represents. She held the Chief Merchant/SVP position at Sephora US for 11 years and under her leadership, Sephora has ushered in an era of development and innovation in the beauty sector. Margarita’s expertise in identifying future trends and competitive threats but above all, her deep understanding of consumer needs lead her in launching multiple innovative commercial concepts; she spearheaded the use of IQ technology, sold at Sephora, adapting foundation shade according to skin color. Today, as strategic consultant in the beauty industry, Margarita keeps promoting emerging brands and innovative concepts.

Joël Palix has been the CEO of Feelunique for the past 5 years, turning this pioneer of online beauty into a leading international e-retailer distributing all the best worldwide beauty brands. Under his leadership, Feelunique has expanded beyond the UK and successfully opened subsidiaries in France and China while signing strategic partnerships in Scandinavia, Russia, Germany and India. Feelunique offers a unique and innovative combination of products, services and content dedicated to online beauty. The company is part of the Gartner-L2 club of most distinctive e-commerce sites in UK and has received the Retail Awards 2019 prize for the best retail concept in the Health & Beauty category. Before joining Feelunique, Joel Palix was Managing Director of Thierry Mugler and CEO of Clarins Fragrance Group; the fragrance and fashion division of Clarins managing prestigious brands including Mugler and Azzaro. After 5 years as VP Business Development for e3 Suisses within the Otto-Versand Group, Joel Palix launched clust.com, one of the very first e-commerce start-ups in France. His career started at Yves Saint Laurent where he was successively MD Spain, MD France and MD Europe, managing major markets and launches for the brand. Joel Palix holds a BA from ESCP and an MBA from INSEAD.
